LEARN ENGLISH DEMONSTRATIVE ADJECTIVES

We use the demonstrative adjectives THIS (este, esta), THAT (ese, esa, aquel, aquella), THESE (estos, estas), THOSE (esos, esas, aquellos, aquellas) to draw attention to particular people, objects, animals, events, etc. They help us to locate the noun they go with in relation to the speaker in space or time.

THIS (este, esta) and THAT (ese, esa, aquel, aquella) are used before singular nouns. THIS (este, esta) shows a closer position of the object to the speaker and THAT (ese, esa, aquel, aquella) a further position.

Example

I learn English with this fast computer. (Aprendo inglés con este ordenador rápido)

They learn English with that slower computer. (Ellos aprenden inglés con aquel ordenador más lento)

THESE (estos, estas) and THOSE (esos, esas, aquellos, aquellas) are used before plural nouns. THESE (estos, estas) show a closer position of the object to the speaker and THOSE (esos, esas, aquellos, aquellas) a further position.

Example

These faster computers are used to learn English, while those slower computers are not. (Estos ordenadores más rápidos son utilizados para aprender inglés, mientras que aquellos ordenadores más lentos no)
