LEARN SPANISH DEMONSTRATIVE PRONOUNS
Demonstrative pronouns are used to substitute nouns, and at the same time, to indicate whether they are close or far, in space or time, from the speaker in the moment of speaking. ÉSTE, ÉSTA, ESTO refer to singular nouns which are close to the speaker. ÉSE, ÉSA, ESO refer to singular nouns which are a bit farther in space or time to the speaker. AQUÉL, AQUÉLLA, AQUELLO refer to singular nouns which are ever farther in space or time to the speaker.

Example
Éste es mi balón. (This is my football).

Aquél es mi balón. (That (farther) is my football).
