LEARN SPANISH INDEFINITE PRONOUNSIndefinite pronouns are used to substitute a noun in a vague way. They can express indefinite quantity or no quantity at all, diversity, equality, quality or intensity, distribution or indifference and quantity or intensity. In that way, we have:
Indefinite quantity or No quantity
algo (something) alguien (someone) alguno/a/os/as (some) nada (nothing) nadie (nobody) ninguno/a/os/as (none)
Diversity, equality, quality or intensity
otro/a/os/as(other) demás (other) diferente(-s) (different) diverso/a/os/as (different) vario/a/os/as (some) mismo/a/os/as (same) tal (-es) (such, certain) igual (-es) (same) semejante (-s) (similar) propio/a/os/as (own, himself)
Distribution or indifference, quantity or intensity
cada (each) cada uno (una) (each of) cada cual (each one) cualquiera que (whoever) cualquiera (cualquier) (any, anyone) uno/a/os/as (one) unos/as cuantos/as (some, any) bastante(-s) (enough) demasiado/a/os/as (too much, too many, too) mucho/a/os/as (much, many, alot) poco/a/os/as (few, little, not much, not many)
todo/a/os/as (all, everything)
No poseo nada. (I do not possess anything).
In this example, "nada" (nothing) does not refer to a particular object but to every object in general.
*NOTE*: Nouns in Spanish have gender so, when you want to substitute them for a pronoun you have to bear that in mind and choose accordingly. *NOTE* In Spanish, most of the pronouns go before the verb, unlike in English. | |||||
