LEARN SPANISH NUMERAL PRONOUNS

Numeral pronouns are used to indicate the quantity of objects, people, etc that we are talking about in the sentence. We distinguish two types of numeral pronouns: Cardinal and ordinal.

Cardinal numeral pronouns tell us just the number of objects, etc. Ordinal numeral pronouns tell us the order they occupy in a series.

Example

Tengo cuatro libros. Pues yo tengo cinco.

I have four books. Well, I have five

Mi proyecto es el cuarto que va a ser presentado. El mío es el quinto.

My project is the fourth that it is going to be presented. Mine is the fifth

In the first example, the pronoun "cinco" (five) substitutes the noun "libros" (books) and just indicates the number of books that that person possesses. In the second example, the pronoun "quinto" (fifth) substitutes the noun "proyecto" (project) and indicates the order that "proyecto" (project) has in a series.

*NOTE*: Nouns in Spanish have gender so, when you want to substitute them for a pronoun you have to bear that in mind and choose accordingly.

*NOTE* In Spanish, most of the pronouns go before the verb, unlike in English.
