LEARN ENGLISH FUTURE CONTINUOUS VERBS

To form the future continuous tense we need to use the future of the verb "to be", that is, "will be" and another verb ending in "-ing". For the persons "I" and "we" we can use "shall be".

Example

They will be working until they finish. (Estarán trabajando hasta que terminen)

I shall be reading the whole afternoon. (Estaré leyendo toda la tarde)

Some verbs have certain spelling changes when adding "-ing": If the verb ends in "-e" we will drop the "e" and then we will add "-ing".

Example

I dance in the disco. (Bailo en la discoteca)

I will be dancing in the disco. (Estaré bailando en la discoteca)

If the verb consists of only one syllable and the last three letters are: consonant plus vowel plus consonant, we will double the last consonant and then add "-ing".

Example

I plan my weekend ahead. (Planeo el fin de semana que viene)

I will be planning my weekend ahead. (Estaré planeando el próximo fin de semana)

For the negative form we use "not" after "will" or "shall".

Example

I shall not (shan't) be reading this afternoon. (No estaré leyendo esta tarde)

You will not (won't) be watching that film tonight. (No estarás viendo esa película esta noche)

For the interrogative form we place "will" or "shall" in front of the person.

Example

Will you be reading this afternoon? (¿Estarás leyendo esta tarde?)

Will he be studying now? (¿Estará estudiando ahora?)

SOME GENERAL USES

We use the future continuous to talk about continuous actions in a future time. We can specify the time when the action is going to take place.

Example

Tomorrow at two I will be working in the office. (Mañana a las dos estaré trabajando en la oficina)

Everyday at 6, I will be studying English. (Todos los días a las 6, estaré estudiando inglés)

He won't be studying during his holidays. (Él no estará estudiando durante sus vacaciones)

The future continuous can be used when we are certain that a progressive action is going to take place.

Example

It will be raining the whole day. (Estará lloviendo todo el día)

In this example we are sure about that weather condition, maybe because of the clouds, the wind, etc.

Mary will be studying all weekend as she has lots of exams next week. (Mary estará estudiando todo el fin de semana porque tiene muchos exámenes a la semana que viene)

Lets us conjugate a verb as an example. We are going to take the verb "to study".
