Learn Spanish.Learn Spanish Verbs.
Spanish verbs like all verbs are "action" words, they are used to express the action
of the sentence or to speak about the person or object that is performing the action
in the sentence.
Mary compra manzanas In this example, the action word is "compra" (to buy). It tells us that the subject "Mary", that is the person who performs the action of the verb is "buying some apples".
Mary likes apples. In this example, the verb "to like" is telling us something about the subject.
Spanish verbs are a bit more difficult to learn than English verbs. That is due
to the different endings that each person of the verb has for each of the tenses.
While in English in most tenses all the persons share the same ending, in Spanish
the Spanish verbs take on an individual form.
We studied Spanish verbs the whole afternoon. They studied Spanish verbs at school.
In Spanish we would say: (nosotros) Estudiamos los verbos españoles toda la tarde (ellos) Estudiaron los verbos españoles en el colegio. In Spanish, we distinguish between regular and irregular verbs, and inside these classifications we have three different conjugations, that is, three different groups of verbs depending on their endings. These groups are: verbs ending in "-ar", in "-er" and in "-ir". We say that a verb is regular when they follow the basic rule of removing the ending (ar, er, ir) from the base of the verb and then add the corresponding set of endings depending on the tense we are conjugating, without varying the spelling of the base of the verb. If we take as an example the verb "estudiar" and we want to form the present tense for the person "ella" we would remove the "-ar" and then add "-a" that is the corresponding ending. In that way we would have: ella estudia. As we can see the base "estudi" has not suffered any spelling changes. On the contrary, if we take the verb "acertar" and we want to conjugate the present tense for the person "ella", we need to remove the ending "-ar" and then add "-a" but in this case there is a spelling change and we have to say: ella acierta. As we can see the base "acert" has changed into "aciert". That is the reason why the verb "acertar" is irregular. Each of the three conjugations (-ar, -er, -ir) has a different set of endings for the different tenses. We will explain all of them in each verb tense. With the Spanish Verbs we also distinguish between Indicative, Subjunctive and Imperative moods. When you learn Spanish verbs this is going to be a big factor.
The Spanish verb in the indicative mood is also called the mood of reality. It means
that with any tense from the indicative mood we can express a fact that is true
or real. It can be affirmative, negative or a question; the fact is that it is real.
We must not get confused with the tenses as inside the indicative mood we have ways
of expressing events in the present, past or future and even in a conditional way
simply by changing the verb tense.

facts that are not true; maybe they are hypothesis, wishes, predictions, etc. Inside
the subjunctive mood we also distinguish among present, past and future.
